OK PIRC on……Early Childhood Education

Research has indicated that the early years of a child's life are critical for optimal development and provide the foundation for success in school and in life.
OK PIRC believes that parents are their children's first and most influential teachers. We are committed to working to increase parental knowledge of early childhood development and increasing school readiness and school success for Oklahoma’s children. To that end, OK PIRC sponsors the Oklahoma Parents as Teachers Program, in partnership with the Oklahoma City Public School District.

What is the Oklahoma Parents as Teachers Program?
The Oklahoma Parents as Teachers program provides parent education and family support to families within the Oklahoma City Public School District throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten. Parents are supported by certified parent educators who are trained in child development, who help parents understand what to expect in each stage of their child’s development, offering practical tips on ways to encourage learning and promoting strong parental-child relationships.
